The doctors and staff at Midway Chiropractic are pleased to introduce the newest member of our team, Summer Nemri, who joined the office in late 2014. Summer’s educational credentials from Bastyr University and the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine, combined with her experience, sensitivity, intuitive skill, and practical application, make her an invaluable member of the Midway team and exceptional practitioner for her patients.

How Acupuncture fits into Midway Chiropractic’s holistic approach

Midway’s approach is holistic, taking into account patients’ diet, movement, lifestyle, and goals for the future. By incorporating a wide variety of approaches and modalities, the team at Midway helps patients find the outcomes they desire. Including acupuncture in its menu is one more way that we are dedicated to helping you find and maintain wellness and be free from pain.

We use acupuncture as part of our pain management and relief program

Summer helps ease patients’ pain and gets them on the way to living life pain-free. She also loves to educate her patients how to maintain that state through the art of Chinese medicine. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions about acupuncture and how it can help. It is new to many people, and there is a growing interest as the practice is applied to helping patients heal the root cause of their concerns. Acupuncture is reaching more and more people because it is effective and individualized care, treating patients’ specific needs.

When asked to describe how acupuncture can work in tandem with chiropractic, Summer said:

“Acupuncture can assist in faster healing when combined with chiropractic care through further opening up the area of injury to greater circulation. As chiropractic assists the body in achieving optimal structural alignment through mostly physical manipulation, acupuncture works as a way to achieve this through energetic pathways, working on the deeper channels. Acupuncture will help the muscles relax and the bones to open to receive more blood and distribute lubricating fluids to areas that need it most. You will find that when you add an acupuncture treatment to your office visit, you will heal faster and be in less pain than just one or the other.”

Acupuncture supports and extends the relief provided by standard chiropractic

Acupuncture can add value to chiropractic care by helping the body integrate an adjustment and help it hold. Summer notes that “It’s best to relax and refrain from too much physical activity after an acupuncture treatment, and because chiropractic usually involves manual adjustments, ideally you’d want to get chiropractic before an acupuncture treatment. Also, allowing yourself to relax and lie still on a treatment table during acupuncture helps to ‘set’ the chiropractic adjustment to give the body a chance to integrate the changes that have taken place.”

What to expect from your first acupuncture visit:

After entering a dimly lit, relaxing treatment space, Summer will ask you a few questions about why you are seeking care. She will have you lie on the treatment table and begin with a quick physical assessment involving taking your pulse (a common Chinese medicine technique) and doing some palpation around the area of concern before beginning with acupuncture. She is happy to demonstrate acupuncture on herself first to show you how it works and how thin and flexible the needles really are. Her technique is very gentle, and you will know what she doing every step of the way. Remember, your main job is to relax! Your body will heal much faster if you allow it the time and space to receive the benefits. You will lie on the treatment table with the needles in for 15-20 minutes. After the needles are removed Summer often finishes the treatment with a quick massage. Most patients are surprised at how relaxed they feel after a treatment. It’s truly amazing!
